On this day November 19 in 1964 – Vocal group The Supremes started a two-week run at number one on the UK Singles chart with ‘Baby Love’.
1966 – Two years later on the same day, The Supremes scored their second No.1 single of the year in the US with ‘You Keep Me Hangin’ On’ which topped the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks straight.
1973 – Progressive rock band Emerson, Lake & Palmer released their fourth studio album ‘Brain Salad Surgery’. The album was a commercial success and it peaked at No.2 in the UK while in the US it reached No.11.
1982 – Led Zeppelin released their compilation album of rejected tracks ‘Coda’ through Swan Song Records. It became a Top 10 hit in North America, the UK, Finland, Germany, Australia, and New Zealand.
1983 – British bass guitarist, songwriter, and vocalist Thomas “Tom” Evans committed suicide, aged 36. Best remembered for his work with the rock band Badfinger.
1988 – With ‘The First Time’, American singer Robin Beck hit number one on the UK Singles chart for the first of three consecutive weeks. The song became a chart-topper in eight other countries as well, but it failed to chart in her home country.
