On this day May 30 1963 – Lesley Gore made her debut appearance on national television. She performed her hit song ‘Its My Party’ on ABC’s show American Bandstand. The single was a chart-topper in the US, Australia and New Zealand and reached No.9 in the UK.
1964 – The Beatles scored their fourth No.1 single of the year in the US with ‘Love Me Do’. They previously topped the Billboard Hot 100 for fourteen consecutive weeks with ‘I Want to Hold Your Hand’, ‘She Loves You’, and ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’.
1968 – The Beatles started recording their eponymous ninth studio album also known as the ‘White Album’ on this day May 30 in music history. They finished recording on October 14 and released the album on November 22 on the newly formed Apple Records label. The album topped every chart it entered.
