1956 – With his tenth studio album ‘Songs for Swingin’ Lovers!’Frank Sinatra became the first artist to top the newly formed UK Albums chart.

1960 – Cliff Richard and the Shadows topped the UK Singles chart with ‘Please Don’t Tease’ on this day July 28 in music history. The song also went to No.1 in New Zealand, Ireland, India, Norway, and Thailand.

1962 – Elvis Presley started a five-week stint at number one in the United Kingdom with his seventh studio album ‘Pot Luck’.

1966 – With his rendition of The Rolling Stone‘s song ‘Out of Time’, singer Chris Farlowe reached No.1 in the UK on this day July 28.

1990 – Hip hop duo Partners in Kryme started a four-week run at No.1 on the UK Singles chart with ‘Turtle Power!’. The song was featured in the superhero film ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’.

1992 – R&B singer Mary J. Blige released her debut studio album ‘What’s the 411?’ through Uptown and MCA Records on this day July 28. The album reached No.6 on the Billboard 200 and sold over 3 million copies.

1995 – American songwriter and session musician Eddie Hinton died on this day at the age of 51 from a heart attack.

2000 – Founding member and guitarist of KC and the Sunshine BandJerome Smith died at the age of 47 after being crushed by a bulldozer at a construction site.

2007 – The winner of the talent show Britain’s Got Talent – Paul Potts went to number one in the UK with his debut studio album ‘One Chance’ which held the top spot for three weeks.

2012 – Country rock group the Zac Brown Band scored their second number one album in the US on this day July 28 with their third studio release ‘Uncaged’.

1937 – American piano player and band leader Peter Duchin was born on this day July 28 in New York City.

1938 – Guitarist and songwriter George Cummings was born in Meridian, Mississippi. Best known for his work with the bands Chocolate Papers and Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show.

1943 – American guitarist and composer Michael “Mike” Bloomfield was born on this day July 28 in Chicago, Illinois. He was inducted into both the Blues and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015.
