On this day December 12 in 1955 – Bill Haley & His Comets recorded ‘See You Later, Alligator’ at Decca Records studios. The song became a hit on on both sides of the Atlantic peaking at No.6 in the US and No.7 in the UK.
1963 – After topping the UK Singles chat for two weeks with ‘She Loves You’, The Beatles extended their run at No.1 for five more weeks but this time with ‘I Want to Hold Your Hand’.
1964 – With ‘Mr. Lonely’, Bobby Vinton reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart on this day December 12 in music history.
1970 – Led Zeppelin returned to number one on the UK Albums chart with their third studio release ‘Led Zeppelin III’.
