On this day June 19 in 1959 – Composer and pianist Russ Conway started a two-week stint at number one on the UK Singles chart with the instrumental ‘Roulette’.
1961 – Pat Boone topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart with ‘Moody River’. The song was also a chart-topper in Canada and New Zealand that year, while in the UK it peaked at No.18.
1965 – The Four Tops went to number one in the US with ‘I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)’ on this day June 19 in music history.
1968 – The Rolling Stones started a two-week stint at No.1 on the UK Singles chart with ‘Jumpin’ Jack Flash’. The song reached No.1 in Australia, Germany, Netherlands and New Zealand as well.
1971 – With ‘It’s Too Late’ / ‘I Feel the Earth Move’, Carole King hit No.1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart for the first of five consecutive weeks. She also started an incredible fifteen-week stint at No.1 on the Billboard 200 on this day June 19 with her second studio album ‘Tapestry’.

1936 – Singer and one half of the musical duo Shirley and Lee, Shirley Goodman was born in New Orleans, Louisiana.
1939 – American soul singer Allen “Al” Wilson was born in Meridian, Mississippi. Best known for the hit singles ‘Show and Tell’ and ‘The Snake’.
1942 – American singer Elaine “Spanky” McFarlane was born in Peoria, Illinois. Best known for fronting the sunshine pop band Spanky and Our Gang.
1945 – Keyboardist and founding member of the progressive rock band Camel, Peter Bardens was born in London, England.
1948 – English singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Nicholas “Nick” Drake was born in Rangoon, Myanmar.
1950 – American singer and songwriter Ann Wilson was born in San Diego, California. Best known as the lead singer of the rock band Heart.
