On this day November 14 1952 – American singer Al Martino became the first artist to top the newly formed official UK Singles chart with ‘Here in My Heart’. The song was at No.1 for nine weeks straight.
1960 – Ray Charles, a native of Georgia, hit number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 with his rendition of ‘Georgia on My Mind’.
1975 – Rock band Queen kicked off their third headlining concert world tour titled ‘A Night at the Opera Tour’ with a show at the Liverpool Empire Theatre in England. The 78-date tour concluded on April 22 in 1976 with a show in Brisbane, Australia.
1981 – With their compilation album ‘Greatest Hits’, Queen started a four-week run at the top of the UK Albums chart. It also peaked at No.1 in Austria, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and Germany.
