On this day October 10 in 1960 – Novelty song singer Larry Verne went to number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart with ‘Mr. Custer’.
1963 – With their rendition of ‘Do You Love Me’, Brian Poole and the Tremeloes hit No.1 on the UK Singles chart for the first of three consecutive weeks.
1963 – French singer Edith Piaf died at the age of 47. She was an international start best remembered for songs such as ‘La Vie en Rose’, ‘Padam, padam’, ‘Hymne a L’amour’, ‘La Foule’, and so on.
1969 – Progressive rock band King Crimson released their seminal debut studio album ‘In the Court of the Crimson King’. The album peaked at No.5 in the UK and it went on to sell over one million copies worldwide.

2009 – Irish singer and songwriter Stephen Gately died on this day October 10, aged 33 of a congenital heart defect. Best remembered as the co-lead singer of the boy band Boyzone.
