1960 – With his rendition of ‘Tell Laura I Love Her’Ricky Valance started a three-week run at No.1 on the UK Singles chart.

1973 – Grand Funk Railroad scored their first number one single in the US with ‘We’re an American Band’.

1973 – The Simon Park Orchestra hit number one on the UK Singles chart for the first of four consecutive weeks with ‘Eye Level’.

1976 – Canadian rock band Rush released the double live album ‘All the World’s a Stage’. It was recorded during their shows at Massey Hall in Toronto between June 11-13 that year.

1979 – The number one single in the UK on this day September 29 was by The Police who started a three-week run at the top with ‘Message in a Bottle’.

1979 – Euro-Caribbean group Boney M scored their second number one album in the United Kingdom with ‘Oceans of Fantasy’. Also a chart-topper in Austria, Finland, Norway, and Germany.

2001 – With her second studio album ‘The Id’, American singer-songwriter Macy Gray topped the UK Albums chart.

2007 – With his third studio album ‘Graduation’Kanye West reached number one in the US. He also topped the US Singles chart on this day September 29 with ‘Stronger’. Both the album and the song earned him a Grammy Award.

2018 – Blues guitarist and singer-songwriter Otis Rush died at the age of 84.

2018 – Country pop singer and songwriter Carrie Underwood topped the US Billboard 200 chart with her sixth studio album ‘Cry Pretty’.

2020 – Singer and actress Helen Reddy died at the age of 78. Best remembered for hits such as ‘Angie Baby’, ‘I Am Woman’, ‘Delta Down’, ‘Leave Me Alone (Ruby Red Dress)’, etc.

2020 – Country music singer and songwriter Mac Davis died at the age of 78. Best remembered for penning Elvis Presley’s hit songs ‘In The Ghetto’, ‘A Little Less Conversation’, and ‘Memories’.
