On this day September 25 in 1954 – Elvis Presley released his version of the songs ‘Good Rocking Tonight’ and ‘I Don’t Care If the Sun Don’t Shine’ on the Sun Records label.
1965 – With his rendition of P.F. Sloan‘s protest song ‘Eve of Destruction’, Barry McGuire topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.
1967 – The Doors released their second studio album ‘Strange Days’ through Elektra Records. The LP went on to sell over 2 million copies, peaked at No.3 in the US and it features the hit singles ‘People Are Strange’ and ‘Love Me Two Times’ / ‘Moonlight Drive’.
1968 – Welsh singer Mary Hopkin started a six-week run at number one on the UK Singles chart with the Paul McCartney produced song ‘Those Were the Days’. The single was a big international hit and it topped the charts in eighteen countries worldwide.
1970 – Ringo Starr released his second solo studio album ‘Beaucoups of Blues’ through Apple Records. The album failed to chart in the UK while in the US it peaked at No.65.
