On this day October 28 in 1956 – Elvis Presley performed ‘Hound Dog’, ‘Love Me Tender’, and ‘Don’t Be Cruel’ on the Ed Sullivan Show.
1967 – The Supremes started a five-week run at number one on the US Billboard 200 with the compilation album ‘Diana Ross & The Supremes: Greatest Hits’. It also topped the UK Albums chart that year.
1978 – With ‘Hot Child in the City’, Nick Gilder topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. Two weeks earlier the song was at No.1 in Canada.
1978 – Rock band Queen kicked off their sixth world tour as the headline act titled ‘Jazz Tour’ with a show at the Dallas Convention Center in Dallas, Texas. The tour lasted for 79 dates and it concluded on August 18, 1979 with a concert in West Germany.
1984 – Founding member, keyboardist, drummer, and vocalist of the pop rock band Orleans, Wells Kelly died at the age of 35.

2017 – Rappers Post Malone and 21 Savage started an eight-week run at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 with ‘Rockstar’. The song was an international hit and it also topped the charts in fifteen other countries, including the UK, Canada, and Australia.
2021 – With ‘Music of the Spheres’, Coldplay scored their ninth consecutive number one album in the UK.
2021 – Adele scored her third number one single in the UK with ‘Easy on Me’ which topped the Singles chart for seven weeks straight.
