On this day November 7 1958 – With his rendition of ‘It’s All in the Game’Tommy Edwards started a three-week run at No.1 on the UK Singles chart. Also a chart-topper in the US that year.

1969 – Rock band Pink Floyd released their fourth studio album ‘Ummagumma’ through Harvest Records. The album was well received and it peaked at No.5 in the UK and the Netherlands.

1970 – Led Zeppelin hit number one on the UK Albums chart with their third studio LP ‘Led Zeppelin III’ for the first of three consecutive weeks.

1972 – American singer and actress Bette Midler released her debut studio album ‘The Divine Miss M’ on Atlantic Records. The album reached No.9 in America and it features three Top 40 singles.

1981 – Daryl Hall and John Oates scored their second number one single of the year in the US with ‘Private Eyes’. They previously topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for three-weeks straight in April with ‘Kiss on My List’.

1983 – The Rolling Stones released their nineteenth studio album ‘Undercover’ on their own record label. After eight consecutive chart-topping releases, it was their first album to not reach No.1 in the US where it peaked at No.4. However, it topped the charts in the Netherlands and Sweden.

1987 –  With his eight studio album ‘Tunnel of Love’Bruce Springsteen topped the US Billboard 200. The album also became a chart-topper in Canada, Italy, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and the UK.

1987 – Sixteen-year-old singer Tiffany Darwish topped the US Billboard Hot 100 with her rendition of ‘I Think We’re Alone Now’. The song also reached No.1 in the UK, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and South Africa.

1991 – American R&B musician Carter Cornelius also known professionally as Prince Gideon Irael died at the age of 43.

1995 – Grunge band Alice in Chains released their self-titled third studio album through Columbia Records which went on to top the US Billboard 200 chart. It sold over 2 million copies.

1998 – With his second solo studio album ‘I’ve Been Expecting You’, singer-songwriter Robbie Williams hit No.1 in the UK.

2008 – American singer, songwriter, and guitarist Ralph Joseph “Jody” Reynolds died at the age of 75. Best remembered for the hit single ‘Endless Sleep’.

2009 – With their debut single ‘Fireflies’, the electronic music project Owl City went to number one in the US. The song was an international hit and it also topped the charts in nine other countries, including the UK and Australia.

2009 – The soundtrack album to the romantic fantasy film ‘The Twilight Saga: New Moon’hit number one in America.

2009 – The number one album in the United Kingdom on this day was Cheryl Cole‘s debut solo studio LP ‘3 Words’.

2015 – The number one album in the United States on this day was the eponymous fourth studio LP by the a cappella group Pentatonix.

2016 – Canadian singer-songwriter, poet, and novelist Leonard Cohen died at the age of 82.

2017 – Finnish-Canadian drummer Pentti “Whitey” Glan died at the age of 71. Best remembered as the co-founder of the bands The Rogues and Bush, and also for his work artists such as Lou Reed and Alice Cooper.

2019 – Welsh rock band Stereophonics scored their seventh number one album in the United Kingdom with ‘Kind’.

2020 – The number one single in the United States on this day was ‘Positions’ by Ariana Grande. It was her third No.1 single on the Hot 100 chart that year which she previously topped with “Stuck with U” and “Rain on Me” in May and June

2020 – Country music singer Luke Combs topped the US Billboard 200 with his second studio album ‘What You See Is What You Get’.

2020 – New Zealand bassist Wayne Stevens also known professionally as Bones Hillman died at age 62. Best remembered for his work with the rock band Midnight Oil.

1938 – R&B and soul music singer Delectus “Dee” Clark was born in Blytheville, Arkansas. Best known for his hit song ‘Raindrops’.

1942 – American singer-songwriter and guitar player Johnny Rivers was born John Ramistella in New York City.

1943 – Canadian-American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Joni Mitchell was born in Fort Macleod, Alberta.

1951 – Guitarist, singer, songwriter and co-founder of the new wave band Cutting CrewKevin MacMichael was born in Saint John, Canada.
