On this day November 11 1955 – Vocal group The Johnston Brothers was at No.1 on the UK Singles chart with their rendition of ‘Hernando’s Hideaway’.
1965 – The Beatles finished recording their sixth studio album ‘Rubber Soul’. The album was released a few weeks later on December 3, it sold over 7 million copies worldwide and it became a chart-topper in six countries.
1968 – John Lennon and Yoko Ono released their first experimental album ‘Unfinished Music No.1: Two Virgins’. The album features a controversial cover of the couple naked and it peaked at No.124 in America.
1972 – Gilbert O’Sullivan topped the UK Singles chart with ‘Clair’. The song also became a chart-topper in Canada, Ireland, and Norway, while in the US it peaked at No.2
1974 – Founding member and bassist of the Allman Brothers Band, Berry Oakley died in a motorcycle accident at the age of 24. Three years earlier in 1971, his friend and fellow bandmate Duane Allman also lost his life in a motorcycle crash.
1978 – With her first live album ‘Live and More’, Donna Summer topped the US Billboard 200 chart.
1989 – Lisa Stansfield started a two-week run at number one on the UK Singles chart with ‘All Around the World’. The song was a hit worldwide and it peaked at No.1 in six other countries.
1989 – Glam metal band Bad English hit number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 for the first of two weeks straight with ‘When I See You Smile’.
1989 – British singer-songwriter Chris Rea scored his first domestic No.1 album with ‘The Road to Hell’, his tenth studio release.
1995 – With the double A-side single ‘I Believe’/’Up On the Roof’, pop duo Robson & Jerome hit No.1 in the UK.
1995 – Alternative rock and The Smashing Pumpkins scored their first No.1 album in the US with their third studio LP ‘Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness’. The album also reached No.1 in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and Sweden.
1995 – English rock band Pulp topped the the UK Albums chart for the first time with their fifth studio LP ‘Different Class’.
2000 – Rock band Creed scored their first and only number one single in the US with ‘With Arms Wide Open’.
2000 – Irish boyband Westlife topped the UK Singles chart with ‘My Love’. Also a chart-topper in Ireland and Sweden.
2000 – While Westlife topped the Singles chart, another Irish act – U2 went to No.1 in the UK but on the Albums chart which they topped with ‘All That You Can’t Leave Behind’.
2006 – The soundtrack album ‘Hannah Montana’ to the the first season of the TV series of the same name starring Miley Cyrus topped the US Albums chart.
2006 – The number one single in the United Kingdom on this day was ‘Put Your Hands Up for Detroit’ by the Dutch DJ Fedde le Grand.
2006 – With ‘My Love’, Justin Timberlake featuring rapper T.I. went to number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart for the first of three weeks straight.

2007 – American drummer and vocalist John Petersen died at the age of 62. Best remembered for his work with bands such as Harpers Bizarre and The Beau Brummels.
2014 – Hip hop pioneer Henry Lee Jackson also known professionally as Big Bank Hank died at the age of 58 from cancer. Best remembered as the co-founder of the hip hop trio The Sugarhill Gang who had the first hit rap single with ‘Rapper’s Delight’.
2017 – Irish singer Niall Horan topped the US Billboard 200 chart with his debut studio album ‘Flicker’.
2021 – Ed Sheeran hit number one on the UK Albums chart with his fifth studio release ‘=’ pronounced ‘Equals’.
2021 – English drummer, songwriter, and co-founder of the band The Moody Blues, Graeme Edge died at age 80.

1929 – American R&B singer LaVern Baker was born in Chicago, Illinois. Best known for hit songs such as ‘Tweedie Dee’, ‘I Cried a Tear’, and ‘Jim Dandy’.
1937 – Keyboardist and actor Roger LaVern was born Roger Keith Jackson in Kidderminster, England. Best known as a member of the instrumental rock group The Tornados.
1943 – One half of the brother and sister pop soul duo Mac and Katie Kissoon, Mac Kissoon was born Gerald Farthing in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.
1945 – Founding member and lead guitarist of the rock band Vanilla Fudge, Vince Martell was born Vincent Martellucci in New York City.
1945 – British guitarist Christopher “Chris” Dreja was born in Surbiton, England. He rose to fame as a member of the rock band The Yardbirds.
1950 – Founder and frontman of the rock band Survivor, James “Jim” Peterik was born in Berwyn, Illinois.
