1968 – The Beach Boys scored their second number one single in the UK with ‘Do It Again’. In the US the song wasn’t as successful and it peaked at No.20.

1970 – The third day of the Isle of Wight Festival took place at Afton Down on this day August 28. It featured performances by the likes of Chicago, Procol Harum, Taste, Family, Cactus, and Rory Gallagher’s blues trio Taste among others.

1973 – The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) awarded Deep Purple a Gold Plaque for their hit single ‘Smoke On the Water’.
