On this day August 3 in 1961 – Richard Graham Starstedt also known professionally as Eden Kane topped the UK singles chart with ‘Well I Ask You’.

1963 – Soul vocal group The Tymes scored their first number one single on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart with ‘So Much in Love’.

1963 – After playing nearly 300 shows at the venue, The Beatles appeared for the last time at the famous Cavern Club in their hometown of Liverpool.

1968 – The Doors started a two-week run at number one in the United States with ‘Hello, I Love You’ on this day August 3 in music history. The single was also a chart-topper in Canada that year.

1973 – Stevie Wonder released his sixteenth studio album ‘Innervisions’ through Tamla Records. The album went to No.1 on the Billboard Soul LPs chart and earned him two Grammy Awards.

1979 – Rock band Talking Heads released their third studio album ‘Fear of Music’ through Sire Records on this day August 3. The LP went on to sell over 500,000 copies and peaked at No.21 in the US.

It became the band’s best-selling albums to date with over 20 million copies sold worldwide. The album topped the charts in Australia, Norway, New Zealand, the UK, and the US.

1993 – Singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow released her debut studio album ‘Tuesday Night Music Club’ through A&M Records. The album reached No.1 in Australia and it made the Top 10 in the UK, North America, and New Zealand.

1996 – Latin pop duo Los Del Rio started a fourteen-week stint at No.1 on the US Singles chart with ‘Macarena’ on this day August 3 in music history. The song was a big international hit and it topped fourteen charts worldwide.

2006 – American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Arthur Lee died at the age of 61. Best remembered as the leader of the rock band Love.

2010 – American R&B and soul music singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Robert “Bobby” Hebb died at the age of 72. Best remembered for his hit single ‘Sunny’.

2013 – English singer Jahmene Douglas went to number one in the UK with his debut studio album ‘Love Never Fails’ on this day August 3.

2017 – Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee topped the UK singles chart with ‘Despacito’. The song was a massive worldwide hit and it went to number one in 47 countries.

2017 – Lana Del Rey topped the UK Albums chart with ‘Lust for Life’ on this day August 3 in music history. The album also reached No.1 in Australia, Canada, Croatia, Mexico, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the US.

2019 – French music producer and songwriter Henri Belolo died at the age of 82. Best remembered as the co-founder of the popular music groups The Ritchie Family and the Village People.

1946 – American bassist and guitarist John York Foley was born on this day August 3 in White Plains, New York. He rose to fame as a member of the rock band The Byrds.

1953 – Scottish multi-instrumentalist Ian Bairnson was born on this day in Lerwick, Scotland.  Best known as a member of the rock band The Alan Parsons Project.

1953 – Four-time Grammy Award-winning producer, songwriter, and guitarist Randy Scruggs was born in Nashville, Tennessee.
