On this day November 30 in 1968 – With ‘Love Child’, Diana Ross and the Supremes started a two-week run at No.1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. Also a chart-topper in Canada and New Zealand, and a No.15 hit in the UK.
1968 – Rock band Big Brother and the Holding Company returned for a three-week stint at No.1 on the US Billboard 200 with their second studio album ‘Cheap Thrills’.
1974 – With his first compilation album ‘Greatest Hits’, Elton John hit number one in the US for the first of ten consecutive weeks.
1979 – Pink Floyd released their eleventh studio album ‘The Wall’ through Harvest and Columbia Records. The LP peaked at No.1 in eleven countries and it went on to sell over 30 million copies worldwide, making it one of the highest-selling albums of all time.
1982 – Michael Jackson released his sixth studio album ‘Thriller’ through Epic Records. The album became a huge hit worldwide and it went on to sell over 70 million copies, making it the best-selling album of all time.
1985 – Phil Collins and Marilyn Martin went to number one on the US Singles chart with ‘Separate Lives’. The song featured in the musical drama film ‘White Nights’ and it was nominated for an Academy Award.
1985 – British pop duo Wham! scored their fifth chart-topping single in the UK when ‘I’m Your Man’ hit No.1 for the first of two weeks.
1990 – Hip hop group P.M. Dawn reached the top spot on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart with ‘Set Adrift on Memory Bliss’.
1991 – Michael Jackson scored this third consecutive No.1 album in the UK with ‘Dangerous’, his eleventh studio LP.
1996 – With his second studio album ‘The Dogfather’, rapper Snoop Doggy Dogg hit number one on the US Billboard 200 chart.
1996 – American singer, multi-instrumentalist, and musical archivist Herbert Butros Khaury also known as Tiny Tim died aged 64. Best remembered for his hit renditions of ‘Livin’ in the Sunlight, Lovin’ in the Moonlight’ and ‘Tiptoe Through the Tulips’.
1999 – American R&B and rock and roll violinist and guitarist Don “Sugarcane” Harris died at the age of 61.
2000 – Canadian musician Scott Smith died at the age of 45 in a boat accident. Best remembered for playing bass guitar with the rock band Loverboy.
2002 – With his fifth solo studio album ‘Escapology’, Robbie Williams hit number one in the UK for the first of six consecutive weeks.
2002 – The number one album in the US on this day was ‘The Blueprint 2: The Gift & The Curse’ by rapper Jay-Z.
2004 – Rock band Linkin Park and rapper Jay-Z released the collaborative album ‘Collision Course’. The mash-up album peaked at No.1 in America and Norway.
2013 – With her third studio LP ‘Artpop’, singer Lady Gaga reached number one on the US Albums chart.
2013 – Eleven years later on the same date, Robbie Williams returned at No.1 on the UK Albums chart but this time with his tenth solo studio release ‘Swings Both Ways’.
2013 – With her rendition of the song ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ by the alt rock band Keane, Lily Allen hit No.1 in the UK.
2017 – British singer Paloma Faith scored her first number one album in the UK with her fourth studio LP ‘The Architect’.
2019 – Rapper and singer Post Malone scored his fourth chart-topper in the US when ‘Circles’ rose atop the Billboard Hot 100.
2019 – Canadian singer Celine Dion scored her fourth number one album on the US Billboard 200 chart with ‘Courage’.

1931 – One half of the country music duo The Wilburn Brothers, Thurman Theodore “Teddy” Wilburn was born in Hardy, Arkansas.
