On this day November 22 in 1957 – American singer Harry Belafonte started a seven-week stint at No.1 on the UK Singles chart with ‘Mary’s Boy Child’.

1963 – The Beatles released their second studio album ‘With the Beatles’ through Parlophone Records which went on to top the album charts in the UK and Germany.

1967 – With ‘Let the Heartaches Begin’Long John Baldry went to number one on the UK Singles chart for the first of two weeks straight.

1968 – Five years later on the same date, The Beatles released another album, this time their eponymous ninth studio LP also known as the White Album. It was the band’s only double album and it reached No.1 in ten countries worldwide.

1975 – American singer Perry Como hit No.1 in the UK with his compilation album ’40 Greatest Hits’ for the first of five consecutive weeks.

1975 – Scottish folk singer and comedian Billy Connolly topped the UK Singles chart with ‘D.I.V.O.R.C.E.’.

1975 – KC and the Sunshine Band scored their second number one single of the year in the US with ‘That’s the Way (I Like It)’ which also hit No.1 in Canada and the Netherlands. They previously topped the Hot 100 chart with ‘Get Down Tonight’ on August 30.

1997 – Co-founder and singer-songwriter of the rock band INXSMichael Hutchence committed suicide, aged 37.

2005 – Heavy metal band System of a Down released their fifth studio album ‘Hypnotize’ through Columbia Records. The album reached No.1 in North America, Finland, and New Zealand.

2008 – The number one album in the UK on this day was ‘The Promise’ by the classical crossover group Il Divo.

2008 – The soundtrack album to the romantic fantasy film ‘Twilight’ went to number one in America. The album also reached No.1 in Greece and New Zealand.

2008 – American songwriter Alan Gordon died at the age of 64. Best remembered for co-writing the hit songs ‘Happy Together’ for The Turtles and ‘Celebrate’ for Three Dog Night’s.

2014 – With their rendition of the Swedish DJ Avicii hit song ‘Wake Me Up’, Gareth Malone’s All Star Choir topped the UK Singles chart. The royalties were donated to the Children in Need charity.

2014 – Rock band Pink Floyd reached number one on the UK Albums chart with their fifteenth and last studio LP ‘The Endless River’.
