On this day October 25 in 1965 – The Rolling Stones performed ‘Time is on My Side’ and ‘Around and Around’ on the Ed Sullivan Show.
1969 – The Archies hit number one on the UK Singles chart for the first of eight consecutive weeks with ‘Sugar Sugar’.
1975 – With his rendition of the 1934 song ‘I Only Have Eyes for You’, Art Garfunkel went to number one in the UK.
1975 – Jim Reeves started a three-week run at No.1 on the UK Albums chart with his compilation album ’40 Golden Greats’.
1980 – With the Barry and Robin Gibb penned song ‘Woman in Love’, Barbra Streisand hit No.1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 for the first of three consecutive weeks. The song was a big worldwide hit and it also reached No.1 in eighteen other countries, including the UK, Canada, and Australia. She also took the top spot on the Billboard 200 on this day with ‘Guilty’.
1985 – English singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Gary Holton died of an overdose, aged 33. Best remembered as the frontman of the glam rock band Heavy Metal Kids.
1986 – Cyndi Lauper started a two-week run at number one on the US Singles chart with ‘True Colors’.

1941 – Australian singer and actress Helen Reddy was born in Melbourne, Victoria. Best known for the chart-topping singles ‘I Am Woman’, ‘Angie Baby’, and ‘Delta Dawn’.
1944 – American songwriter and singer Mary Catherine “Taffy” Nivert-Danoff. She rose to fame as a member of the Starland Vocal Band.
